David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido is trending again and before you even check the headline, you already know why, it’s not music, it’s not even industry drama, it’s a paternity claim, involving a child.
There’s a reason these stories never land in a neutral space, Davido’s personal life has always been loud, messy and very public. His history of philandering, multiple baby mamas and very visible romantic missteps has shaped how people read him, so when a new claim surfaces, many people don’t wait for proof. They wait for confirmation of what they already believe.
The Claim
This time, it’s a teenage girl, Anu Adeleke, who posted an open letter online asking Davido to take a DNA test, because apparently, she’s been growing up not knowing who her father is and it has taken a toll on her life. She talked about being bullied in school, about classmates laughing when she said her father was David Adeleke, about crying herself to sleep and about having to see a professional just to cope.
Reading her letter, you’d feel her pain, you really would and then you’d also pause to wonder about the adults around her, the ones who could have guided her, protected her, or at least thought about how public this would get.
Davido’s Response: Five DNA Tests
Of course, Davido responded, because if there’s one thing he doesn’t do, it’s staying silent when his name is dragged into the mud. He revealed that five DNA tests had already been
conducted over time. According to him, three tests were done at hospitals he chose, while two were carried out at hospitals selected by the girl’s mother. All five, he said, returned negative results.
He denied ever being in a relationship with the girl’s mother and said the only time he met them was during the DNA testing process. He also made it clear that he considers the matter closed, warning that continued allegations would be met with legal action.
Why People Still Believe
Even with all of that, people are still doubting and again, can you really blame them? Davido’s life has been messy, chaotic, dramatic, like we’ve all watched it unfold, so when a story like this comes along, it fits the narrative people already believe. Of course he could be the father, he’s Davido but probably doesn’t mean true. Five DNA tests say no, yet the story keeps coming back and that’s the cruel part of fame; the moment your life is public, your past behavior becomes evidence, even if it’s not relevant to the present.
And social media? Don’t get me started. There’s team she’s telling the truth and team Davido is clean here, hot takes from people who have no connection to the child, no idea what’s actually happening.
The Surname Question
There is also a detail many people avoid discussing directly; the child’s last name. Why was “Adeleke” given to a child whose paternity had not been confirmed?
If the DNA results are negative, that decision becomes even harder to justify. Who made that call, and who bears responsibility for the emotional and social consequences that followed?
This situation is uncomfortable because a child is genuinely hurt and searching for answers. A man can also be wrongly accused, even if his history makes people suspicious of him, Davido’s reputation explains why people listen, but it should not replace facts.
At the end of the day, maybe all we can hope for is that the child finds clarity, peace and identity somewhere beyond the gossip, beyond the comments, because she deserves that and because no amount of celebrity drama should ever outweigh the wellbeing of the person actually at the center of it all.
