I woke up to breaking reports of explosions in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital. According to early information, the blasts occurred around 1:50am, local time, with additional attacks reported in Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira states.
At first, it looked like another tense night in a country already familiar with political instability, but within hours, the situation escalated into something far bigger.
President Trump Confirms U.S. Responsibility
President Donald Trump of U.S. confirmed that the United States carried out what he described as large-scale strike on Venezuela.
In a post on his social media platform, President Trump claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country. He said the operation was conducted in coordination with U.S. law enforcement and announced that further details would be shared during a press conference later today at Mar-a-Lago.
The statement immediately drew global attention, given the seriousness of the claim and the implications of a foreign power arresting a sitting head of state.
Venezuela Confirms Casualties
While the U.S. side focused on the operation, Venezuela’s government confirmed deaths resulting from the strikes. Officials said both civilians and military personnel were killed, though no official casualty figures have been released. The government condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty.
As of the time of writing, Venezuelan authorities have not confirmed the whereabouts of President Maduro, nor have they acknowledged that he has been captured.
Claims of Arrest and Trial in the U.S.
U.S. Senator Mike Lee later stated that President Maduro had been arrested by U.S. personnel and would be taken to the United States to stand trial on criminal charges.
According to Senator Lee, the military action was intended to protect those carrying out the arrest warrant. These claims are based on longstanding U.S. accusations against President Maduro, which he has repeatedly denied.
However, there is still no independent verification of these claims.
An Unfolding Situation
At this point, many questions remain unanswered; Who is currently in control in Venezuela? Was President Maduro actually removed from the country? What will Venezuela’s response be?
What is clear is that this development marks a major escalation in U.S.–Venezuela relations and could have serious regional and international consequences. For now, the situation remains fluid and the world is waiting for official confirmation and further details as events continue to unfold.
