Let’s be real for a second, healthy eating is not a punishment, nobody is going to handcuff you for eating white rice and no one is forcing you to survive on vegetables. If you think wellness means eating like a goat that lost its way, then you’re doing too much.
Healthy eating is simply learning how to eat so you’re not tired, bloated or questioning your entire life existence by 2 p.m. It’s not about deleting everything sweet from your life; it’s about making sure one food group isn’t bullying the rest of your plate.
The Art of Balance and Common Sense
Everything in life needs balance, if you’re going to eat carbohydrates, please, introduce them to some protein and vegetables. Your body actually likes variety even if your cravings are currently screaming for nothing but flour and sugar.
The "Healthy is Expensive" Lie
We need to stop this particular lie about eating healthy being expensive and learn to stop substituting instant noodles for everything.
You don’t need to buy exotic fruits or pricey food items while eggs are still the GOAT of affordable protein and when vegetables and beans are literally waiting for you in the market.
Portion Control
We need to talk about portions and yes, it’s going to sting but it’s important we know and follow the truth. Just because a meal is healthy doesn’t mean you should eat it like you’re preparing for a 6-month hibernation.
Healthy eating is also knowing when to stop even when the food is sweet enough.
Always Stay Hydrated
Please, drink your water, tea is not water and Malt or beer is definitely not water because your organs are in there begging for hydration and you’re giving them sugar and spice.
Sometimes you’re not even hungry you’re just dehydrated and being dramatic, I’m not mentioning names but I definitely know someone who is permanently sitting on this "I hate water" table. Yes, you, please get up and drink water before your kidneys start a protest.
Consistency > Perfection
The goal is consistency, not suffering. Some days, you’ll eat a perfectly balanced meal that would make a nutritionist weep with joy and other days, life will happen, and Shawarma and pizza will win, that’s perfectly is okay! Your body will forgive you if you treat it well eighty per cent of the time.
The Bottom Line
If your version of healthy eating makes you miserable, you’re doing it wrong. Food is fuel, but it’s also joy and you’re allowed to enjoy both. Choosing to eat well isn't a punishment, it’s just you choosing to take care of yourself, one plate at a time. Be sure to be well.
