October Is the Time to Get Ready: Prepare to Vote in 2027

As October begins, Nigerians who registered to vote ahead of the 2027 general elections should start getting their voting arrangements in order.
The voter registration exercise has already been conducted. So, at this point, the focus should not be on telling people to go and register. The next important step is to collect your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) when the collection exercise begins.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 9, 2026, as the commencement of nationwide collection of newly issued PVCs ahead of the 2027 elections.
That means October is an important month for everyone who registered and is waiting for their card.
Have You Collected Your PVC?
If you registered to vote but have not yet collected your PVC, please don’t wait until election season before taking action.
When the collection exercise begins, make plans to go to your designated collection centre and collect your card if it is ready. You should also confirm that the information on your PVC is correct and keep the card safe once you have collected it.
Your PVC is an important part of the voting process. INEC’s voter-education information states that voters are required to present their physical PVC for verification through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the voting process.
So, being registered is only part of preparing to vote. You also need to make sure you have your PVC and know what is expected of you on election day.
Don’t Wait Until 2027
It can be easy to think that there is still plenty of time. There isn’t a good reason to leave something as important as collecting your PVC until the last minute.
Once the collection exercise begins on October 9, make plans to collect your card. If you are unsure about your collection location or the status of your PVC, check INEC’s official platforms or visit the appropriate INEC office for clarification.
For residents of Enugu and other parts of the country, it is especially important to follow information from the appropriate INEC office about collection arrangements in your area.
Be Careful With False Information
As we get closer to the 2027 elections, there will likely be a lot of information circulating online. Not everything you see on social media is accurate.
Be careful about websites, individuals or social-media posts claiming that they can help you register, collect your PVC, change your information or provide other electoral services.
For anything concerning your voter registration, PVC or election participation, rely on official INEC information and verified announcements.
Don’t hand over your personal information to strangers simply because they claim they can help you get your PVC.
What Should You Do This October?
If you registered to vote, make this your checklist:
* Check your PVC status.
* Find out where your PVC is to be collected.
* Make plans to collect it from October 9 when the collection exercise begins.
* Check that your details are correct.
* Keep your PVC safe after collecting it.
* Follow official INEC announcements for any changes or additional instructions.
* Learn about the candidates, parties and issues before election day.
And most importantly, don’t convince yourself that your vote does not matter. You may hear people say, “My vote will not count.” But refusing to participate guarantees that you have no vote in the decision at all.
Your vote is one of the ways you participate in choosing the people who will represent you. Whether you are satisfied with the political system or frustrated by it, you still have the right to participate and make your own informed choice.
Your Vote Starts With Preparation
Voting preparation should not begin when campaign posters are everywhere and election day is just around the corner. It starts now.
It starts with making sure that, if you registered, you collect your PVC when it is ready. It means keeping your voter information in order, following official INEC announcements and taking time to understand the candidates, parties and issues before making your decision.
October 9 is an important date for registered voters waiting to collect their PVCs. So, when the collection exercise begins, please don’t postpone it.
Go and collect your PVC. Keep it safe. Stay informed. Your vote is your voice. 🇳🇬🗳️
