On the eve of December 11, the city of yenegoa was thrown into tumult, rumors and fear. The whole town went silent. Small community of people gathered to confirm from one another if the rumors were true. It was a devastating day for the people of Bayelsa. The ever vibrant, generous and hardworking Deputy Governor had just passed away in the most unprecedented way.
The questions arose; was he sick, did he have a terminal disease? Was it an accident? What exactly happened to our dear Deputy Governor? The answer; he slumped. His death is still a puzzle for many and may never truly be understood.
The whole town has been thrown into a state of mourning. No one saw this coming. It was rather too sudden and so painful. May the Lord grant his family the strength to bear this great loss.
For years, Bayelsa State has thrived under the rulership of Governor Douye Diri and Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The Deputy Governor was always active and showing up even when it was least expected. He was famously known for his proverbial speeches that would always leave the masses entrenched in his wisdom.
He was loved by many because of his simplicity and resilience. It was even rumored that he sometimes disguised himself as an ordinary man just to see how the ordinary people were faring, and in some cases he will extend a generous hand to those who were really in need of help.
In some statistics, he was the most loved and revered Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. It is such a sad and gloomy day for Bayelsans because a hero has gone too soon. I wish we would have had more time with him to let him know how amazing he has been.
All will remember him. The market women, the school children, the youths that he has tirelessly empowered and many more who were directly or indirectly empowered by him.
He has indeed left a very delicate spot to fill. His impact will speak on for a long time to come. His successor now has big shoes to fill up because Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has set a high standard.
