Moon Landing History: How One Giant Leap Changed the World Forever

After a journey of nearly four days through space, the spacecraft entered lunar orbit.

Armstrong and Aldrin transferred into the Lunar Module, named Eagle, and began their descent toward the Moon's surface while Collins remained aboard the Command Module Columbia.

On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module successfully touched down on the Moon.

Neil Armstrong radioed the now-famous words:


"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

A few hours later, Armstrong carefully descended the ladder and became the first human to set foot on the Moon.


He then delivered one of history's most memorable quotes:


"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Soon after, Buzz Aldrin joined him on the lunar surface.


Together, they spent approximately two and a half hours outside the spacecraft conducting experiments, collecting rock samples, and planting the American flag.
